Meditation is a big part of my practice as it is through meditation that I am able to reconcile myself in the midst of all the drudgeries of life. There are many kinds of meditation and the one which I am practicing is called Vipassana meditation which allows me to peel away the layers and to reach my inner core containing my true unblemished self by practicing mindfulness.
For all those of you who are unfamiliar with Vipassana meditation. The concepts are pretty ‘simple’. There is no chanting of sutras all you need to do is to watch your mind at work quietly. That’s it really, it does sound simple right? Wait till you sit down in the lotus position unable to move at all and you are compelled to watch your thoughts run wild through your mind without any active participation on ones part is hard. In the beginning, you would need to gently steer yourself towards being part of a passive audience and be forced to watch your thoughts flow by while you are not allowed to comment on it.
Three things to note about Vipassana meditation: Right Attitude, Right Awareness and Right understanding. If you have achieved even one out of all these three things, you would have come a long way.
Sometimes people practice meditation for the wrong reasons. Humorous Ajahn Chah said this of the meditation practice: ‘Don’t be attached to visions or lights in meditation, don’t rise or fall with them. What’s so great about brightness? My flashlights has it. It can’t help us rid ourselves of our suffering.’
The whole intention of Vipassana meditation is to empty out your mind to end Suffering or Samsara. When you are in this mode, for that flicker of a moment, you are in nirvana.

It is really hard.
